Frequently Asked Questions

The calculator computes the difference between your birth date and today, accounting for varying month lengths and leap years to give precise years, months, and days.

The total days lived is calculated from midnight on your birth date to the current date. It accounts for leap years and is mathematically precise.

Zodiac signs are based on the traditional Western astrology date ranges. Each sign corresponds to a specific date range during the year.

The calculator uses the built-in date system to determine the exact day of the week for any date, going back centuries.

The Surprisingly Complex Math of Calculating Age

Counting years between two dates seems trivial until you consider edge cases. If you were born on March 1 in a non-leap year, are you "born on Feb 28 or Mar 1" in leap years? Different countries answer this differently — in the UK, a person born Feb 29 legally turns a year older on March 1 in non-leap years, while in New Zealand, it is February 28. Our calculator follows the most common convention: your birthday is the same calendar date, and Feb 29 birthdays celebrate on March 1 in non-leap years.

How "Days Lived" Works

The total days calculation accounts for every leap year between your birth and today. Leap years occur every 4 years, except for century years not divisible by 400. This means 1900 was not a leap year but 2000 was. A person born January 1, 2000 has lived through 6 leap days by mid-2026 (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024). Each leap day adds one to the total, which is why a simple "years x 365" approximation drifts by a day for every four years of life.

Age Calculation in Different Cultures

In East Asian age reckoning (used traditionally in Korea, China, and Japan), you are 1 at birth and gain a year every New Year's Day, not on your birthday. A baby born on December 31 would be 2 years old the very next day by this system. South Korea officially switched to the international age system in June 2023. This calculator uses the international standard where age increments on each birthday anniversary.
